Violet Ruby DEWINETZ

October 4, 2008

DEWINETZ, Violet Ruby. On October 4, 2008 our Mom, Grandma and Baba found her much deserved peace and joined in heaven, her husband John and sons Mel, Gordy and Kenny. From heaven she will continue to watch over those that she left behind. Her sons Don (Jody), Rich (Evelyn), Dave (Bernice), Bill (Joan) and daughters Judy, Yvonne (Mike) and Dianne (David). Her grandchildren Valden, Darren, Cheryl, Donna, Sanci, Jason, Lindsay, Becci, Chris, Nicole, Troy, Deeann, Brian, Cory, Michael, Trevor, James, Robert, Katie, Abby and Kenny and 24 great grandchildren. Violet was born November 28, 1919 in Edmonton, Alberta. Violet lived a full and sometimes hard life and can be described as a pioneer woman. In Canyon Creek, Alberta she began raising children while also raising mink, running a store and being dad's bookkeeper for all his endeavours. Then in 1954 with 7 of her babies in tow she and John moved to BC to what became the family farm on 28th Ave. Here she birthed two more while she worked the mink ranch and farm with John. Walking into Vi's home you were always greeted by smells of borscht, cabbage rolls, Christmas fruit cake, canned peaches, beets, pickles or marrow jam. Her hands were always busy with quilting, knitting, embroidery, sewing and tending her house plants. We are thankful that in retirement she found time to travel, bowl, play golf and bingo. Her family cherishes the gifts she gave us, the lessons she taught us and the mothering and love she gave to each of us. As we thank our mom for taking care of us, we would also like to thank the gentle and kind staff at the Peace Portal Lodge for taking such wonderful care of her in her last years. Family meant everything to Vi, so please join her family for a Funeral to celebrate her life on Saturday October 11, 2008 at 10am at Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre, 14831 - 28th Ave., Surrey, BC.
