HINKELMAN, Walter

Walter Wilfred Hinkelman passed away peacefully at his home in White Rock, BC on Nov. 12, 2009. Walter will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years Merle (nee Livingston), children Barb (Wayne), Bob (Joy), Terry (Shirley), Fay (Dave) and Jill (Joe), grandchildren Warren (Stephanie), Jessica, Jordan, Briana, Carling, Lissa (Justin), Gemma, Julia, Graham and Rachel, great-grandson Cole, his sister Ida, aunt Olga and many nieces and nephews. Walter was pre-deceased by brothers Herbert and Daniel. Walter was a caring wonderful husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew and friend. He will be dearly missed by all. Dad was born on March 10, 1926 in Weyburn, Saskatchewan and grew up on the family farm in nearby Ogema where he graduated from high school. His family then moved from Saskatchewan to Manitoba where he met Merle and together they raised their children. Dad partnered with his family and together they farmed and operated a heavy equipment construction company for many years in Manitoba. In 1971, Dad and his brothers all moved to the White Rock/Surrey area where Dad was active in the local business community until retiring in 1995.

Dad was an avid golfer and curler throughout his life. He enjoyed these activities with family and friends at local golf courses and the Peace Arch Curling club over the years.

Thank you to Dr. Prentice and to the staff of South Fraser Support Society for their compassionate care.

A service of remembrance will be held at Crescent United Church (2756 127th St. Surrey) on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Walter's memory to the charity of your choice with thanks.
