Wilhelmina Elizabeth Wilmot-Ware (Mina) Ware

October 8, 2006

Born December 29, 1899 in Cheltenham in Gloucestershire, England, died peacefully in her sleep on October 8, 2006 at Westminster House, Ocean Park, Surrey, BC. She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest, many years ago, and her two younger sisters Ellen Violet and Lilian Josephine.

Mina is survived by cousins Vera Smith of Saskatchewan and Rosalie Robinson of England and other relatives and friends.

The Wilmot-Ware family of three daughters had a happy life until their father's untimely death when the girls were ages 1, 3, and 5.

Mina's father was the local Anglican Minister and after his death Mina attended a boarding school for children of deceased clergy, St. Margaret's School.

After her schooling Mina began her career as a secretary in the heart of London.

However, she was interested in teaching and she came to Saskatchewan in the 1920's and taught in Taylorside School near Melfort, SK.

There she met Ernest Ware, a farmer, and they married in 1936. Interestingly, she didn't have to change her name, just drop the Wilmot as they already shared the name Ware. The couple farmed in the summer and visited the B.C. southern coast during winters.

In 1957 they bought an acre of land in Ocean Park where Ernest finished building their home in 1961.

Until 2000 Mina lived in this house nestled among the beautiful trees and birds, where she enjoyed working in her garden.

She was a lover of art and filled her house with her paintings in addition to the many she gave away.

The Church of England was always important in Mina's life.

She knew all the hymns and prayers and played (piano) and sang many hymns with a very beautiful, soft voice.

She was a member of the University Womens Club for many years.

She and Ernest donated property in Saskatchewan to Bird's Unlimited.

Mina has donated her property in Ocean Park for the purpose of a nature park for the citizens of Surrey.

Many thanks to the staff of Westminster House for their loving care of Mina.

A funeral service will be held at St.Mark's Anglican Church, 12953 - 20th Ave. Ocean Park, Surrey, B.C., on Friday, October 20 at 3 pm.

Mina will be interred with her husband, Ernest, in Melfort SK.
