Canada has lost a great Canadian. Winnifred passed away on May 1, 2004 at the age of 78. A Memorial Service was held in her honour on Monday, August 16, 2004 at 4:00 p.m. in Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church, 2250 - 150th St, Surrey, B.C.
This day in August was remembered and celebrated annually by Winnie and her family as the anniversary of her great accomplishment. In 1951 she became the first Canadian to swim the English Channel.
