Re: Countdown on for candidate selection, Nov. 8.

Gordie Hogg will be running in this election on his record.

So I ask him: Why did you not work harder to achieve the $2.5 million in severance pay kept from 100 hard-working B.C. unionized workers by an $18-billion foreign corporation – members of PPWC Local 16 versus RockTenn?

Your constituent led the charge to regain those benefits, but for four years you let the bad faith accusations stand. You had the option to push your government colleagues for a review, investigation, mediator, industrial inquiry, etc., but you didn’t.

The current provincial NDP government has so far sided with negligent union negotiators and corporate shareholders, and is throwing us lowly workers to the wolves, too.

Are you going to represent your hard-working constituents, or union and corporate elites?

Re: Seven on the ballot, Nov. 22.

Reading your online piece about the candidates, I felt I had to write in support of the one candidate choice that is clear for a lot of us here: Gord Hogg.

I have known this man as a friend and neighbour for years; and Gordie is a good, good man. I have known him as a partner in this community who has helped so many individuals, families and organizations through good times and bad.

We all know him as a tireless public servant – an elected official who gets involved and follows up, no matter what the answer has to be in the end. Most know Gordie to be an independent thinker whose voice is guided by principle and values we share. I’m sure his party knows this streak in him, and he’ll keep the opposition and his own government honest at the same time!

Byelections don’t get the same coverage as big elections. But this one is big for South Surrey-White Rock. So please vote for the candidate you feel will best represent the people and needs of our riding.
