Re: Federal funds sought for rail-relocation study, Aug. 11.

For those who despair that rail relocation will ever come, take heart – great news in the PAN.

Thank you to Surrey council, who have applied to the federal government to fund a study of rail relocation. This study is crucial to deal with the practicalities of such a move.

It is a slow process, but all levels of governance from the local to the federal level are supportive. The Washington governor is very interested in high-speed rail from Oregon to Vancouver and freight trains could be twinned with these tracks. The governor is looking at the federal infrastructure funds that are available.

Rail relocation could provide a huge number of jobs for B.C. workers.

The safety issue of a possible chemical or oil spill is a festering sore ready to explode anytime.

Our wonderful little piece of beautiful West Coast is too precious to be spoiled because of inaction.
