Re: When our donations runneth over, Oct. 18 letters.

You published a letter to the editor from Maria Pavlik. The picture, which spoke a thousand words, was taken at the Royal Canadian Legion on 128 Avenue.

I would like to thank Ms. Pavlik and Peace Arch News for spotlighting this, as we have tried for too long to curtail dumping around our donation bins.

As a service organization, we are proud to support many charities in our area. The donation bins – which clearly ask for books and clothing only – have attracted significant dumping of high-quality items of all types combined with useless garbage. Once exposed to the elements, most of this must be sent to the garbage dump, taking money from us that would otherwise support the many charities we are proud to support.

We live in a very affluent area, and it is sad that a few of our lazy and inconsiderate neighbours choose to act in this manner.

Ms. Pavlik, it seems like you have made a difference, as since this piece ran the dumping has virtually stopped. We can only hope that this continues.
