Re: Frustration building in White Rock, July 28 letters.

Peace Arch News’ letters page on July 28 was devoted almost entirely to the frustration felt by White Rock shareholders.

I use the term because that is what we are. We, the taxpayers, own the city and everything in it. Not the mayor, not the council and certainly not the city staff, senior or otherwise.

Collectively, they are spending our money like there is no tomorrow, and at the rate they are going there might not be one.

J. Amyotte of Surrey asked, “Why would anyone in White Rock not vote to join Surrey… to do what’s best for residents?”

Simple, they don’t know that all it takes is a simple referendum. There is a provision in the Community/Municipal Act, or whatever it’s called today, that allows for a simple referendum and it is done. Don’t need the mayor, don’t need council and certainly don’t need city hall.

Remember, we own it and them! They serve at our pleasure.

Remember how easy it was to send Dorothy back to Kansas. Click your heels three times and say “referendum” and poof it’s done.

If you are as fed up with this insanity as I am, I will pay for the hall, you fill it and we can have an “invitation only” meeting and we can make a plan.
