Jeff Copland raises some important issues that need to be looked at. A whole bunch of new businesses are investing in the future on the waterfront strip.

It would seem that now would be the time for the city to increase the effort in keeping this area vibrant.

Business owners certainly must remember they have a responsibility beyond the walls of their establishments to make the strip attractive to visitors.

A full program of events jointly sponsored by business and the city is beneficial to all.

I do feel, however, that the White Rock Museum and Archives was somewhat unfairly treated in the article. I don’t think people are expecting the same experience as a visit to the Louvre or the Acropolis. The museum is a cozy little spot that offers to preserve and educate on the community’s heritage over the last 100 or so years.

Cost of admission is not expensive; at times by donation. It promotes exhibits by local student artists and activities for children. The archive is staffed by people that are passionately interested in local history and has a rich collection of photographs and notes.

We don’t need improvement here. What we do need are other small attractions to get people circulating on foot. The success of the strip relies on more than just parking and places to eat.
