It’s time to level the playing field

Re: Peninsula residents refocus after ‘bizarre’ officiating, Aug. 9.

Questionable calls in soccer have been a problem for a very long time.

It is one of the reasons why I am no longer a fan of soccer.

When the team you support loses a match because of a questionable call it is very demoralizing.

The organizers of soccer have refused to introduce modern technology into soccer to remove this problem of questionable calls.

Other sports organizers are not so backward.

For example, in tennis, players are allowed to challenge line calls and a slow-motion replay decides the point. There are a limited number of challenges allowed so that players don’t just challenge every call.

Why can’t soccer introduce a similar system for challenging questionable calls?

The technology is available – it is the inertia of the organizers that is holding soccer back.
