We live in a humane society

Editor:

How great to be someone who can thank others for their kindness.

Last week, I was knocked over by a very friendly, exuberant dog while in the dog park at Centennial Park.

Unable to get up, three people who were outside the dog park – plus the owner of the dog – hurried over to see if they could help.

Linda took care of my dog, and the others got me to my feet and assisted in getting me to Centennial Arena. Eric, the director of leisure services, got me a coffee and summoned a first-aid attendant who suggested I should go to the hospital. Karen drove me to emergency and stayed with me for almost four hours while I waited for X-rays.

I had never met these people before but these complete strangers put aside their own agendas for that day to help me.

I believe in the kindness of others, and their empathy and actions to help me confirmed my belief.

Why were they at the dog park that day? They happened to be members of the Rotary Club and were there to see what improvements could be made to this new park. I think they are now thinking of a bench for those dog owners who would like to sit down and rest. Great idea!

Many thanks to Linda, Karen, and Eric for their concern and attention, and to first-aid attendant Lee.

To the lady who owns the dog, don’t worry. There are no broken bones. You have a wonderful, friendly dog who was just being a dog! I hope to see you up there again in a few weeks.
