LETTERS: Democracy under threat

This is a wake-up call for all voters in the federal riding of South Surrey-White Rock-Cloverdale.

The Conservative government, through the proposed “Fair Elections Act,” is trying to make it more difficult for you to exercise your constitutional right to vote.

Those who could be affected are the elderly in care homes, some aboriginals, college students, homeless and other transient people.

Experts estimate some 500,000 citizens could be disenfranchised with passage of this bill.

It further limits the power of the Elections Canada officers and switches the reporting function from Parliament to the Ministry of Justice.

It is not only the Ukraine whose democracy is being threatened, it is our own.
