Bennett on roll after trade to Giants
Former Semiahmoo Minor Hockey alum – and former Surrey Eagles forward – Spencer Bennett has been on a tear since being acquired earlier this month by the Vancouver Giants.
Sunday against the Seattle Thunderbirds, Bennett, 20, scored a pair of goals for the Giants to lead them to a 4-3 victory. The win also vaulted the Giants back into first place in the Western Hockey League’s B.C. Division.
Bennett, a Calgary Flames draft pick who played in Surrey during the 2008/09 season before jumping to the WHL ranks, has 14 points in nine games in Vancouver, the team he joined when the Giants shipped captain Craig Cunningham to the Portland Winter Hawks. In total, Bennett has 21 goals and 35 points in 46 games this season.
