For the first time since 2007, the Crescent Beach Triathlon returned to South Surrey, drawing more than 50 participants on Sunday morning.

The once-popular event – which had run for more than two decades prior to its cancellation in '07 – returned this year as a something of a "do-it-yourself training exercise" rather than an official, sanctioned event because organizers balked at a number of conditions, including a large price tag, imposed by the City of Surrey.

Next year, organizers hope to put on an official meet.
