Softball clinics set for Open

The Canadian Open Fastpitch International Championship returns to South Surrey next week.

And once again, some of the best international and club teams in the world are slated to take part in the 10-day tournament, which runs from July 11-21.

But in addition to the on-field action, a handful of youth clinics for local players is also on tap.

Youth softball clinics, for boys and girls aged 8-16, are scheduled for July 15 through the 18th at Sunnyside Park. Participants will get the opportunity to learn from some of the best players in the game, as members of Team Canada, Japan, Mexico and the United States are set to help out.

As well as on-field instruction, the national team players will share their stories of dedication and perseverance with the young ballplayers.

Clinics will run from 9-11:30 a.m. daily, and participants will receive a t-shirt as well as one complimentary child/teen
