The Vancouver Canucks have signed free agent goaltender Ryan Miller to a three-year deal worth $18 million total, a $6 million average annual hit to the team's roughly $17.75 million in cap space.

(That number is now down to $11.75 million with Miller's signing, according to CapGeek.)

The Canucks still have unrestricted free agent Mike Santorelli and restricted free agents Chris Tanev, Linden Vey, and Zack Kassian to either re-sign or let walk.

"He really wanted to see if he could stay in Vancouver," said Santorelli's agent JP Barry, to The Vancouver Sun's Iain MacIntyre last week. "He really liked the hockey team and we were hoping something could get worked out. But it doesn't look like it."

Miller's signing in Vancouver has been rumoured about since last week, and he was in the city on Monday to meet with general manager Jim Benning – the same man who had a hand in drafting Miller 138th overall in 1999, when Benning was the Buffalo Sabres' Director of Amateur Scouting.

He will presumably become Vancouver's No. 1 goalie, playing ahead of both Eddie Lack and Jacob Markstrom.

Lack played 41 games for the Canucks last season, including 19 starts in a row when Roberto Luongo was traded to Florida. Markstrom has played just 47 NHL games in parts of four seasons in the league, including four with Vancouver at the end of last season.
