The boys basketball season is set to tip off at Semiahmoo Secondary.

On Tuesday, the Totems will host four straight “home openers” at the school, beginning in mid-afternoon, all against Langley’s Brookswood Bobcats.

Billed by senior boys hoops coach Ed Lefurgy as a “program day” – meaning that multiple teams will be in action – the action begins with the Grade 8 boys hitting the hardcourt at 2 p.m., followed by a Grade 9 game at 3:30 p.m. and a junior game at 5 p.m. Lefurgy’s senior squad will lace up and play at 6:30 p.m.

Last year, Semi’s senior team advanced to B.C. championships for just the second time in the last 40-plus years – they qualified in 2015 to end a four-decade slump – and finished 11th overall. They spent much of the season ranked inside the top-10 among B.C. triple-A teams.
