After a successful first season using Langley's McLeod Athletic Park as a secondary home, WFC2 is back in the Fraser Valley, this time for a six-game stint.

WFC2, the affiliate team for Major League Soccer's Vancouver Whitecaps, is set to hit the pitch at McLeod Athletic Park on Saturday, April 8.

The team plays out of the United Soccer League and they will host the Seattle Sounders FC2 with a 3 p.m. kick-off.

In 2016, the squad — which typically plays their home games at UBC — announced they would play two games in Langley, and later added a third contest for MAP.

All three games were a big hit and played a factor in the decision to return to Langley for 2017.

"We could have played (all our games) at UBC but we just felt the experience was a good one," said Whitecaps president Bob Lenarduzzi.

"We enjoyed the games and the community seemed to enjoy it so it seemed like the right move to play more games there."

The remaining 10 home games will be played at UBC's Thunderbird Stadium.

Lenarduzzi said the feedback they received was that the team's Fraser Valley fan base — Whitecaps season ticket holders also receive WFC2 tickets as part of their package — enjoyed the proximity to see the team's future players.

The WFC2 roster is made up of players who are looking to gain experience and training as they look to progress their professional careers.

This year's roster has players in the 16 to 25-years-old range, including a trio from outside North America.

In addition to the April 8 contest, the club will host Real Monarchs SLC on May 28, Seattle on July 1, the LA Galaxy II on Aug. 27, Sept. 6 versus Tulsa Roughnecks FC and the Timbers 2 on Sept. 30.

Several of the games also have special themes.

On May 28, fans are invited to bring their dogs along, the Aug. 27 game is Star Wars Night and Sept. 30 is Oktoberfest.
