A 21-year-old Cloverdale woman helped raise more than $150,000 by shaving her head for the Canadian Cancer Society fundraiser, Cops for Cancer.

Leah Straathof shaved off her shoulder-length hair at the Cloverdale Coast Capital branch – where she works – in September to show her support for the cause.

“I had been thinking about it for a year, and I’ve been with Coast Capital for five years and each year they did something for Cops for Cancer,” Straathof said. “I know lots of guys do it, but this yea, I wanted a girl to do it.”

Although it took some getting used to for her parents, Straathof says she has received positive feedback from family and friends, and the added bonus of a short primp time in the morning doesn’t hurt.

“I like it, it’s so easy to get ready in the morning. People have asked if I regret it, but I actually enjoy it,” Straathof said.

Straathof’s fundraising brought in more than $15,000, which helped Coast Capital in raising more than $155,000 this year for the cause.
