A recent effort to help local food banks fill their shelves raised more than $20,000.

Between First West Credit Union's Feed the Valley initiative and Envision Financial's The Full Cupboard,  3,350 pounds of food was also collected during Hunger Awareness Week.

The Full Cupboard supports 11 food bank partners in the Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley and Kitimat.

For Feed the Valley, First West employees and community partners organized 58 fundraising events during Hunger Awareness Week. Employees and members alike were encouraged to donate cash or non-perishable food items. They also pledged $2 (up to $2,000) for every like, share or retweet of their posts and tweets.

Since The Full Cupboard's launch in March 2013, more than $95,000 and 11,600 pounds of food has been collected.

First West's Feed the Valley has raised more than $615,000 and 56,000 pounds of food since March 2010.
