Horn fund helped

Relief efforts in the Horn of Africa will receive a $323,902 boost thanks to donations collected at BC Liquor Stores this summer.

Relief efforts in Somalia, Kenya, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Uganda will receive a $323,902 boost, thanks to donations collected at BC Liquor Stores this summer, and a matching contribution from the federal government.

The fundraising campaign ran Aug. 5 to Sept. 15 at 197 provincial liquor stores, and will benefit the Horn of Africa Relief Fund.

A similar effort earlier this year collected nearly $300,000 for relief efforts in Japan, following the earthquake/tsunami in that country. BC Liquor stores have also helped efforts in Haiti ($345,000) and Pakistan ($210,000).

The Canadian Red Cross provides men, women and children with necessary emergency relief, medical treatment and assistance to recover their livelihoods.
