Ministers look to Surrey Board of Trade for feedback

Federal government welcomes input from local business leaders.

The Surrey Board of Trade has two federal ministers seeking their business perspective:

A roundtable meeting with the Honourable Diane Ablonczy, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas and Consular Affairs) will explore Doing Business in the Latin America (Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Venezula).

The minister has expressed an interest in meeting manufacturers but also wants to hear from anyone doing or wanting to do business in Latin American countries.

Ablonczy will inform  participants of the government of Canada's economic plans, including its focus on the Americas. She is interested in hearing about the experiences of the participants in doing business in Latin America, including any opportunities and challenges that they face in the countries of Central and South America.

The roundtable meeting takes place Wednesday, July 25 at the Surrey Board of Trade Conference Room (#101-14439 104 Ave.) from 10-11 a.m. (please arrive by 9:50 a.m.). Admission is free.

In August, there will be a business lunch with the Minister of State for Transport Steven Fletcher.

The topic of discussion will be a safe and secure transportation system. Innovative solutions, particularly the application of new technologies, are critical to address the need for improvements in transportation productivity, sustainability and safety. Areas addressed will be aircraft services, civil aviation, marine safety/security, rail and urban transit security, rail/road safety, security and emergency preparedness, transportation of dangerous goods, and eco-technology for vehicles.

The lunch takes place Thursday, Aug. 9 at Eaglequest Golf Course, 7778 152 St. Registration and lunch at 11:30 a.m., with the program from 12-1:30 p.m. Admission is $35 plus tax.
