Peninsula resident receives top journalism award

Hayley Woodin one of three students to receive $2,000 scholarship

Kwantlen Polytechnic University student Hayley Woodin has won one of the province’s top journalism awards.

Earlier this month at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Vancouver, Woodin, a Peninsula resident and Kwantlen journalism student, was named the winner of the Jack Webster Student Journalism Award.

The fourth-year student was one of five B.C. students to receive the award, and one of three to receive a $2,000 scholarship.

“I have attended the Webster Awards ceremony almost every year since I started at Kwantlen, but being honoured at them alongside some talented students and accomplished journalists is quite humbling,” said Woodin, who will be interning at CTV before leaving to study international journalism in England in January.

“This award and scholarship means a lot to me both personally and professionally. Such recognition re-affirms my desire to pursue my goals, and to do so with more passion, enthusiasm and effort.”
