A team of RBC employees are armed with cleaning equipment today (Thursday), as they scour Crescent Beach's shoreline for garbage.
The crew from the Morgan Crossing location are taking on the task in honour of RBC Blue Water Day, which sees branches from all over participate in community clean-up projects.
Bobeena Kosar, the team captain for the Crescent Beach project, said the day, first launched in 2007, is one component of the company's 10-year global commitment to help protect fresh water.
"So far, from what I remember, there is $38 million pledged to charitable organizations worldwide who are working on protecting fresh, clean water – not just for drinking, but for swimming, as well," she said. "The reason why (RBC) chose water is because everyone needs fresh water, but access to clean water is a growing problem.
"As the population grows, there is more need for water, so we're focusing on initiatives that help protect water in urban areas."
And with a number of Semiahmoo Peninsula residents working at the branch, it was easy to gather a crew who wanted to don the blue shirts and clean up a spot they all enjoy.
"We're hoping to get more people involved as we continue with our projects," Kosar said, noting Blue Water Day is just one community project in the works. "What better way to participate in our community and to get really involved."
