Soon, Surrey residents can now get information on their garbage pickup from their phone.
The City of Surrey has developed an application called my-waste for iPhones, iPod Touch and Android devices that gives maps, times and alarms for when garbage will be collected.
The app provides residents with instant access to waste collection schedules and services. It includes information on collection dates; materials accepted for recycling, composting, or disposal; drop-off depots and rates; and more. The app also allows users to set up personalized alerts such as collection day reminders or service change notices due to a holiday.
“This technology is a new way for us to connect with our residents and provide information in more accessible and convenient way,” said Mayor Dianne Watts. “The City of Surrey is constantly looking at ways to communicate better and simplify our processes. This app will provide information at your fingertips and we hope it will make life a little easier.” She adds the new service will help residents transition to new collection services, which begin in the fall of this year.
The City will continue to distribute printed materials and upload information to its website for residents who prefer traditional forms of communication. An application for the new generation of RIM smart phones is planned for mid 2012.
