A White Rock man has been honoured with a fellowship by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of B.C.
Dave Mitchell received the FCA designation “for contributions to the community and service to the profession.”
Mitchell is a partner with KNV Chartered Accountants where he works with a variety of clients in the public and not-for-profit sectors.
According to a Feb. 7 release announcing the fellowship, he regularly presents on accounting topics to numerous and diverse groups, including boards of directors, industry audiences, and provincial and local governments.
In 2003, Mitchell served as a member of the Skeena Native Development Society Think Tank, which focused on First Nations wealth creation, and co-authored the book Masters in Our Own House – The Path to Prosperity.
In 2010, Mitchell was appointed chair of the board of directors of the Fraser Health Authority.
In the community, Mitchell has volunteered as a director, treasurer, president and/or board member for organizations including the White Rock South Surrey Community Policing Society, the Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation, the Phoenix Drug and Alcohol Recovery and Education Society, the White Rock South Surrey Foundation and the BC Summer Games.
Recently, he was active in the development of White Rock’s Centre for Active Living, a $6.5-million facility that opened in 2011, focusing on promoting improved community health.
In recognition of his volunteerism, Mitchell has been awarded the Peace Arch Hospital and Community Health Foundation Laftin Award for Service, the ICABC Community Service Award and the Rotary Foundation of White Rock Paul Harris Fellowship.
