Volunteers 18 and older are still needed to judge four rounds of debate at the Debate and Speech Association of B.C.'s 2011 Lower Mainland East Regionals Feb. 5 at Elgin Park Secondary.
As the host school, Elgin is expected to supply one-third of the judges for the event, which will see all Surrey and Langley schools with debate teams competing for entry into the prestigious Law Foundation Cup.
Judges should have a good understanding of the English language, and are expected to write comments on debaters' performances; listen to debates that are up to 40 minutes long; and leave personal knowledge and biases "at the door."
Judges are required to be at the school, 13484 24 Ave., from 8:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Snacks will be provided throughout the day.
