B-17 Mitchell and B-25 Flying Fortress bombers were among rare — and rarefied — warbirds that helped celebrate the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War at Boundary Bay Air Show on July 25.
The event brought out thousands of people to Boundary Bay Airport for all-day displays and fly-overs by pre-war, wartime and post-war airplanes and helicopters.
One flight included two fighter planes that were former adversaries: A Focke-Wulf 190 (left) and a North American P-51 Mustang.
There were also parachute jumps by the Canadian military’s Skyhawks team and demonstrations by stunt pilots “Super” Dave Matheson of Chilliwack and Arizona’s Jon Melby — both of whom raced against cars, a McLaren and a Ford GT.
