The Cloverdale Legion will once again host the city’s main Remembrance Day service in Veterans’ Square on Nov. 11.
Yvon Lehoux, sergeant-at-arms for the Royal Canadian Legion’s Branch No. 6 in Cloverdale, said the ceremony will start at about 10:30 a.m. and afterwards everyone is invited back to the Legion.
He said when the service ends, there will be a parade from Veterans’ Square to the Legion.
“We’re expecting about 500 people to march from the cenotaph to the Legion,” he said.
The parade will be led by a Legion colour party followed by a contingent of veterans and others. Lehoux, as the sergeant-at-arms, will lead the colour party.
“At the tail end of the parade, there will be a Korean War Canadian jeep,” he noted. “And there will be a Second World War army truck that will close the parade.”
Lehoux said both will be parked in the Legion lot afterwards and visitors are "more than welcome" to inspect the historical army vehicles.
Lehoux’s encouraging everyone who attends the service in Veterans’ Square, the one at Surrey Centre Cemetery, or anywhere else in Surrey or Langley, to head back to the Cloverdale Legion afterwards, or their local Legion.
He said Cloverdale has a full slate of “great entertainment” scheduled.
“Starting in the neighbourhood of quarter-after one, the E Division Pipe Band and the Celtic Dancers will do a show,” said Lehoux. “That show will last about three-quarters of an hour and then the Vancouver Travellers Brass Band will come in at two o’clock. They will play the tunes of the era of World War II.”
He said the Silver Diamond Country Dancers will perform at 3 p.m., then there’ll be karaoke from about 4 - 5 p.m., and the final act, a live band will take the stage in the evening for the remainder of the night.
The Cloverdale Legion is located at 17567 57 Avenue and will be open to the public starting at noon.
