Cut for a Cause raises more than $1,200

A fundraising event organized by two friends in White Rock last weekend brought in more than $1,200 for families dealing with childhood cancers and blood disorders.

Sarah Post – whose son, Carson, was diagnosed with soft-tissue cancer in December 2009 – teamed up with friend Robyn Cooper to offer hair cuts by donation at Seaside Memories bed and breakfast May 1.

Four hair stylists donated their time, and around 40 people turned out to Cut for a Cause, including Carson’s friend, Chloe Hubbs, who received her first haircut.

Supporters Lisa Dreves and Moira Siebert also took part, having eight and six inches, respectively, of their hair cut and donated.

A number of prizes were also raffled off, thanks to donations by Lower Mainland businesses, including White Rock’s Notti Biscotti.

Funds collected – far exceeding the $500 goal – will benefit Balding for Dollars, which is a fundraising event to be held at BC Children’s Hospital this Saturday, May 7.

Family members, friends and staff are set to gather at the Vancouver hospital and shave their locks in support of kids with cancer, while also enjoying games, live entertainment, arts and crafts and more.
