Daycares receive bonus funding

An $11,000 bonus cheque from the provincial government will be split among six licensed group child-care providers in South Surrey and White Rock this spring to help them cope with the transition to full-day kindergarten.

Providers who care for children from 30 months to school-age are expecting a dip in enrolment next year thanks to the full-day kindergarten program, which begins in September.

According to a provincial government announcement, Seaview Pentecostal Assembly, Village Montessori School, Maison Montessori Childcare, Little Sprouts Child Care, Educare Systems and Evergreen Child Care Centre will receive their share of the money by the end of March.

“This funding supports the hard work of our childcare providers, giving them the help they need during the transition period to full-day kindergarten,” Surrey-White Rock MLA Gordon Hogg said in a press release. “Investing in quality childcare services is good for the childcare provider, families and the community.”
