SURREY — A developer has donated $50,000 to the Surrey Crime Prevention Society (SCPS).
Trigate Properties Group presented the cheque at Surrey City Hall on Monday (May 15).
This is the second time Trigate has donated $50,000 to the public safety organization.
“This extraordinary gift is the second part of the largest individual donation in the history of the City of Surrey, solely dedicated, to enhancing the safety of the people of Surrey,” according to a release.
Surrey Crime Prevention Society says the gift will support the expansion of community safety programs to include programs that engage students in Grades 6 and 7 on the value of being involved in their community.
Volunteers and staff supporting the “Civic Pride Program” will work with Surrey schools and focus on elementary schools with a large population of new Canadians and youth at risk.
“We want to thank the George Tsakumis family for their second generous donation of $50,000 to Surrey Crime Prevention Society,” said Karen Reid-Sidhu, executive director of SCPS. “This gift will enable us to expand our current programs to include a focus on engaging elementary students including new Canadians on the importance of Civic Pride…. We are proud of our over 350 volunteers who have contributed over 88,000 hours over the past three years towards the enhancement of community safety in the City of Surrey.”
Trigate founder, George Tsakumis, began building in Surrey 53 years ago on King George Boulevard and has been honoured by the past four mayors of Surrey for his generosity.
