A fortuitous photo taken during a 2011 band trip has won Earl Marriott Secondary Grade 10 student Mark Westwood a Kobo e-reader.
Westwood placed third in the Fraser Valley Regional Library’s Picture This teen photo contest, which encourages young shutterbugs to send in their best photos throughout March.
Westwood’s photo, taken during a band trip to Spain last spring break, depicts his fellow bandmates, as reflected in the bell of his trumpet, during a performance in a Seville, Spain courtyard.
Westwood, who says he enjoys photography, said he took the photo “with just my regular, little camera” while still playing the trumpet.
His photo was entered in the contest’s “grand prize” category, and he finished behind grand prize winner Sahara Brouwer and first runner-up Sean Dance.
