The Lower Mainland Green Team tackled invasive plants at a White Rock park Saturday (May 25).

The invasive plant removal activity, held in partnership with the city, saw 18 community members came out to enjoy the ocean views and fresh forest air while helping to continue the restoration of Ruth Johnson Park.

Volunteers removed seven cubic metres of invasive English ivy, periwinkle, and English holly, equivalent to the volume of 43 bathtubs, a LMGT release noted.

Attendees ranged from returning secondary school students, local White Rock residents, and first-timers wanting to try something new.

Part of a long-term restoration project that is already improving the resilience of this park, the progress made by the environmental cleanup has helped lay the foundation for the planting of future native species later this year.

The next LMGT White Rock activity takes place at Ruth Johnson Park on Sunday, June 16 from 9:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.
