The Lower Mainland Green Team is gearing up to host its first White Rock street/beach litter cleanup event this month.
Set for 9:45 a.m. till 1 p.m. on July 28, the effort – in partnership with the City of White Rock – is about connecting the community while making a positive impact on the beach and areas along Marine Drive.
"Removing litter of all shapes, sizes and weights makes a positive impact in protecting the environment, but these opportunities carry an even bigger impact by introducing people to ways they can make a difference in their community and empowering them to make environmentally responsible decisions in their everyday lives," a news release announcing the cleanup states.
"We each play a role in contributing to a clean, healthy and resilient community and environment."
The team regularly hosts invasive-plant removal events in the city; in Ruth Johnson Park and along West Beach.
Anyone interested in pitching in to the new initiative on July 28 is invited to meet at the comfort station/washrooms located at the foot of Oxford Street and Marine. From there, participants can help pick up trash from the streets and beach during a walk through the neighbourhood.
Green Team officials say no experience is necessary to get involved. People of all ages and abilities are welcome to join in; guidance and gear, as well as snacks, will be provided.
The cleanup is to go ahead rain or shine. To sign up, email ashton@greenteamscanada.ca or visit meetup.com/the-lower-mainland-green-team/events
