A South Surrey farm that provides fresh produce for local food banks will hold a volunteer appreciation day this Saturday (Aug. 25).

God’s Little Acre farm at 16582 40 Ave. provided more than 60,000 pounds of fresh potatoes for local food banks last year – enough to feed 250 families a day.

This year, farmer Jas Singh expanded to 10 acres and plans to provide the food bank with a wide variety of fresh vegetables which will include carrots, beets, lettuce, beans, peas, corn and a number of other locally grown spray-free vegetables.

The farm has been dependent on local church groups volunteering assistance with the planting of the crops.

Singh says the appreciation say is to say thank you and encourage people to continue helping with the harvest.

"We will be cooking up a little food and supplying the music," Singh said. "We are hopeful as a result of the media attention and farm visits from interested parties we will not have to spend money on farm labour in order to bring in this year's crop.

This weekend's event starts at noon.
