SURREY – A Surrey real estate team gave it their best shot in the kitchen for a good cause.

Donning their aprons, Surrey’s Chris Whitehead and Associates took part in the inaugural “Battle for the Bank” fundraising competition for the Surrey Food Bank.

The event was held Nov. 16th at Coast Wholesale Appliances in Surrey. It featured three competing kitchens, each manned by local businesses and sponsors. Each kitchen provided a meal and wine pairing to the audience of 150 clients, friends and family members. Once the meal was complete, the audience cast their votes for which kitchen would earn the privilege of having the evening’s donation made in their name.

When all was said and done, CityWide Financial, a mortgage brokerage in Vancouver, was named the winner.

Despite falling short in the friendly competition, Chris Whitehead said his real estate group plans to make this an annual winter event, and are accepting donations for this drive until the end of December.

“My wife and I have been long time supporters of the food bank for years.” said Whitehead. “It’s such a valuable service, and we always aim to help them out whenever we can.”

The Battle for the Bank raised more than $8,000 and 115 pounds of food for the Surrey Food Bank.
