Organizations form cat coalition

The Surrey Education and Adoption Centre spearheading project

The Surrey Education and Adoption Centre has teamed up with special-interest groups to create the Surrey Community Cat Coalition.

The goal for the group is to help care for the feral cats in the community and aid in population control through spay and neuter programs.

The launch of the SCCC on Oct. 16 coincided with Feral Cat Day, branch manager Rodney Weleschuk said in a press release.

The special-interest groups involved to date include the Surrey Animal Resource Centre, the Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue, Paws for Hope and Katie’s Place in Maple Ridge.

There are currently more than 12,000 feral cats in Surrey.

Individuals interested in volunteering are asked to contact Weleschuk at surrey@spca.bc.ca
