Peninsula residents were all abuzz over Prince William and Kate Middleton's royal wedding Friday – an historic occasion that compelled some to dress up and indulge in all things British.

Students at South Surrey's Hair Art Academy showed up to school wearing tiaras, jewels and fanciful dresses.

A few proved resourceful with their attire, with 20-year-old Victoria Ensing snagging a lace wedding gown from a thrift store and Michelle Weghsteen, 23, making use of her high school grad dress.

Clients were treated to tea and biscuits, while wedding coverage played on the salon's TV throughout the day.

Just down the road, a group of Peace Arch Hospital Auxiliary volunteers had a similar idea.

About 30 women who work Thursdays at the Superfluity shop in White Rock gathered at a fellow volunteer's South Surrey house for a celebratory garden party.

The Union Jack and images of the royal couple were hung up throughout the home, as the women – between the ages of 60 and 90 – enjoyed English games, music, food, prizes and a wedding cake, all while wearing their finest hats.
