The children’s swimwear designs of White Rock resident Rachel Moore debuted at Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s grad fashion show this week.
The Show, held April 5 at River Rock Show Theatre in Richmond, showcased the work of fourth-year Kwantlen fashion design and technology students tasked with creating clothing for a niche market.
Moore used her own childhood as inspiration for Candycoated’s Spring 2012 collection of UV-protective swimwear, which utilizes SPF 50 nylon lycra material.
“Candycoated’s specialty swimwear line is devoted to educating girls about the growing importance of sun safety, while offering styles they will throw tantrums to own,” a release states.
The swimsuits are made for girls ages two to seven, and come with corresponding swim boleros and leggings to protect from the sun.
All swim pieces are designed with bright prints and florals, and can be mix-and-matched to allow young girls to create their own swim outfit.
Moore – who attended the degree program straight out of high school – hopes to continue designing for the children’s wear market after graduation and a long vacation.
