SENIORS SCENE: Kent Street Centre activities winding down over Christmas

Normal hours set to resume on Jan. 4

Many of the Kent Street Centre activity groups will be taking a short break during the holidays and will be returning the first week of January. Snooker, carpet bowling and table tennis will continue through the Christmas break. Contact the centre for what hours/days these groups will be meeting or check out our membership activities schedule at whiterockcitiy.ca/seniors.

• Bring your grandchildren down for a fun afternoon of skating at the Centennial Arena. Christmas break skates run Monday to Friday, Dec. 20 -31, 12:30-2:30 p.m. Check out whiterockcity.ca/skate

• Are you new to sewing or need a refresher? Learn everything about your sewing machine from threading it to how to identify tricky fabric to choosing the best sewing notions. Join Diana Counsell for a one-day workshop on Saturday, Jan. 8 at the Kent Street Activity Centre. Call 604-541-2199 to register or online at whiterockcity.ca/register

• If you are still not comfortable coming back to an in-person recreation class, why not do some learning on Zoom? Beginning Tuesday, Jan. 25, join Sylvia Taylor for a six-week program on how to write engaging stories from your life memoirs to share with your family and friends. • Learn watercolour basics at the White Rock Community Centre. This fun and interactive evening class begins Tuesday, Jan. 18 and runs for eight weeks. Demonstrations, hands-on painting, individual feedback and an encouraging environment will support you in your skill development. • Don’t forget to visit the City of White Rock’s new winter lights display at the waterfront at Memorial Park. Bright Walk in White Rock runs until Feb. 15, 2022.

Happy holidays from the staff at the Kent Street Activity Centre. Please note that the centre is closed on Dec. 25, 26, 27, 28, Jan. 1, 2, 3 with reduced hours (9 a.m. - 1 p.m.) on Dec. 29, 30, 31.
