SENIORS’ SCENE: Lots to do in September

Tickets are on sale now for the Kent Street Seniors Society’s annual bridge tournament, set for Friday, Oct. 26.

Register with a partner and enjoy an afternoon of contract bridge. Refreshments included.

Advance tickets are available at Kent Street Activity Centre, White Rock Community Centre and Centennial Park offices. No tickets at the door.

On Saturday, Sept. 8, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., come visit the Centre for Active Living. Check out the gym, meet the instructors. Free workshops & fitness classes.

Everyone has a life story worth telling.

Learn how to create engaging written stories from your life in a fun and supportive atmosphere in the turning Memories into Memoirs program, Tuesdays, 7-9 p.m. or Thursdays 1-3 p.m., at Kent Street Activity Centre.

Do you want to start hiking or trail walking?

Learn about safe hiking practices and great trails with outdoor leaders Patrick and Paula. These free sessions are geared to adults 50-plus and will be held on Sept. 5 or 6, 1:30-2:30 p.m.

The ever-popular Fresh and Lively Luncheons are held on the first three Fridays of the month at Kent Street Activity Centre.

Make Friday afternoons a perfect opportunity to socialize, enjoy an afternoon of entertainment and have a nourishing and delicious meal.

First luncheon of the fall is Sept. 7.

Learn basic Spanish language conversation and pronunciation in a relaxed, informal setting. Beginner classes are held at the Kent Street Activity Centre, 11:30 a.m. to 2:30p.m., beginning Sept. 20 and at the White Rock Community Centre beginning, 7-8 p m., Sept. 17.

A refresher class held Monday evening from 8-9 p.m. at the White Rock Community Centre.

On Saturday, Sept. 22, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the White Rock Community Centre, seniors in the community are invited to attend “For the Health of It.”

This annual resource and information fair is for seniors interested in learning more about living longer and healthier lives.

Catch the Retirement Concepts free shuttle from Ocean Park and the Semiahmoo Shopping Centre.
