SENIORS SCENE: New provincial health orders put some activities on hold at Kent Street Centre

Classes, program capacity reduced by half until at least Jan. 18

In response to the public health orders issued on Dec. 21, 2021, White Rock Recreation and Culture has made changes to its recreation programs and activities until Jan. 18, 2022 or when otherwise changed by the Provincial Health Officer. The cardio gym at White Rock Community Centre plus all adult exercise including group fitness, personal training, Zumba, yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi and dance classes are suspended.

All other recreation classes such as art workshops, lectures, computer classes and music programs are reduced to 50 per cent capacity.

Some Kent Street Activity Centre activity groups are also cancelled until Jan. 18. This includes all Bridge groups, Cribbage and Whist and Table Tennis. Seniors activity groups that continue to meet will be restricted to 50 per cent capacity.

• With the increase in COVID-19 numbers, White Rock Recreation and Culture is offering some computer workshops through Zoom so participants can learn a new skill and interact with others in the safety of their own home.

Beginner Facebook, Instagram and Twitter workshops will be offered as well as iPhone/iPad photography and an introduction to digital art. For more information and to register check out whiterockcity.ca/register or call 604-541-2199.

• If your New Year’s resolution is to exercise more, then consider coming down to Centennial Arena on Wednesday or Friday mornings, 10:45 a.m. to noon and enjoy a few laps around the ice.

• The opening of the Kent Street Coffee Shop and the return to frozen meal sales has been delayed due to the increase in COVID-19 numbers. Please watch for more information to follow on the new date for the re-opening of the coffee shop.

• Beginner Spanish lessons are being offered at the Kent Street Activity Centre beginning Thursday, Jan. 27, 11 a.m. - noon. Call 604-541-2199 to register for this six-week session.
