In response to the evolving COVID-19 situation, White Rock Recreation and Culture will be postponing the start of all recreation programs until May 1. We will re-evaluate the status of these and all spring programs on a ongoing basis and keep our participants informed of any changes. Anyone who has signed up for programs that start between April 1 and April 30 can withdraw by emailing recreation@whiterockcity.ca

Unfortunately, the April 27 registration date for all summer excursions has also been postponed. A new date will be announced very soon.

• Alexandra Neighbourhood House is developing a phone tree to provide mutual support and encouragement to residents of South Surrey and White Rock. It will include a mix of people who are at-risk and homebound, as well as those who are mobile in community. Please contact Neil at communityprograms@alexhouse.net, or call him at 604-535-0015 (ext. 236) for more information.

• Rotaract volunteers are happy to grocery shop and deliver for seniors and immune-compromised people in the community during this crisis. The service is available seven days a week. For information, please call Lexie Wynne at 604-616-6420 and she will help organize the shopping and delivery. You can also email semiahmoopeninsularotaract@gmail.com. Many of the Rotaract volunteers are students so delivery time may vary depending on availability of volunteers.

• The City of White Rock has posted a list of community resources you can access during this challenging time. This list includes pharmacies, grocery stores and food pickup and delivery services from both stores and restaurants. Check out www.whiterockcity.ca

• Remember, if you are feeling unwell or have health conditions that are impacted by respiratory illness, health authorities suggest staying at home.

The B.C. government is providing a self-assessment tool that you can use to help determine if you have symptoms of COVID-19. Check out bc.thrive.health. The most important things you can do to prevent infection is to wash your hands regularly and avoid touching your face to help reduce your risk of infection.

• The bc211 call line has expanded to help B.C. seniors during COVID-19 pandemic.

Safe seniors, strong communities is a program that matches seniors who need support with non-medical essentials, to volunteers in their community that are willing to help. To register for services or to offer to help, please visit www.bc211.ca

During the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important for both our physical and mental well-being to keep active and connected with others. Whenever you can, try to get outside for some fresh air, phone someone, offer your skills, or mail a letter.

Keep connected with family and friends and try to stick to a routine as much as possible.

• Remember, we are all in this together and we will get through it together. Please be kind to one another, practice social distancing and help others when you can. We miss you all!

The Kent Street Activity Centre is focused on persons 55 years of age or better. Call 604-541-2231.
