SENIORS SCENE: Try bird-watching with the Kent Street Centre

Learn what all the squawking is about

The Kent Street Coffee Shop is selling frozen meals again. Every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 10 a.m. -1 p.m., drop by the Centre and pick up some delicious, home-cooked frozen meals and soup at very affordable prices that range between $6-$9.

The coffee shop is also open for sit-down service. Enjoy a bowl of soup for only $3 or a sandwich for only $5. Delicious baked goods are also available. Prices can’t be beat! The coffee shop is open 9:30a.m. to 1:30p.m., Monday to Friday.

• Gratitude Circle and Chair Yoga is a new program starting up at the Kent Street Activity Centre on Thursday April 14, 9:15-10:15 a.m. Start your day with your head high and your heart open. Practise living with gratitude and embodying it with chair yoga; together they are powerful and transformative tools.

• Fun Bridge is back at the Kent Street Activity Centre every Wednesday, 1-3:30 p.m. This friendly group welcomes everyone who enjoys playing bridge in a relaxed, fun atmosphere. Not a member of the Centre yet? Come check us out and try out any activity group including Fun Bridge three times before purchasing a membership. We look forward to seeing you soon!

• Bird Watching is a great outdoor hobby that supports increased physical activity, positive mental health and relaxation in nature. Come and see what all the squawking is about on a birding walk and talk at the A Rocha Environmental Centre. This excursion on Tuesday May 31, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. includes transportation and is only $15. Call 604-541-2199 to register.

• The very popular Body Works 50+ fitness program has returned to the Kent Street Activity Centre every Monday morning at 8:45 a.m. Start your day with this fun workout designed to improve your muscular endurance, functional strength and flexibility. This full-body workout with Val will keep you fit and ready for your active lifestyle. Register for the 10 sessions or drop in when it fits your schedule. • Bring your latest project to a Sewing Workshop and with the help of the instructor, work through any hiccups you have. Are you struggling with collars or sleeves or lining up button holes? There will be a review of finishing details for any garment, plus delve into some new skills to try for your next project. Register now for this workshop on Saturday, May 7.

• Drop down to Kent Street Activity Centre on Wednesday nights and dance to the sounds of live bands. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with dancing from 7-9:30 p.m. April 20, the featured band is Patrizia & Don and on April 27, the band is the Alpiners. No refreshments are available at this time.
