Members of White Rock city council – with organizers of Hands Against Racism – show their support for the March 19 event.

An event planned for this weekend along White Rock's waterfront aims to lend a hand in the fight against racism.

Saturday's event, Raise Your Hands Against Racism, is set for noon until 4 p.m. at the head of the White Rock Pier.

Participants will have the chance to dip their hands into paint and apply a handprint to a large banner in support of the initiative.

Other Hands Against Racism events are planned for Vancouver, Burnaby and north Surrey.

"When you throw colour at someone, the real colour of the person is hidden so everybody looks the same – that's the inspiration behind (the event)," said organizer Shushma Datt, who added that the initiative is inspired by Holi, an Indian festival in which participants are covered in colourful powder in celebration of love and inclusion.
