Show of hands at border

The annual Hands Across the Border celebration is to take place Sunday (June 12) at Peace Arch Park.

The 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. event – which draws thousands of Girl Guides, Scouts, cadets and other youth from both sides of the border – is to include a parade of flags through the historic Peace Arch, speeches and the opportunity for the youth to trade badges and pins with their peers.

To accommodate the celebration, the Douglas (Peace Arch) border will be closed to all vehicle traffic from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. North- and southbound motorists will be diverted to the Pacific Highway crossing, at 176 Street, and officials are advising those planning to cross the border during the festivities to expect delays.
