Thousands of men and women – including a team from South Surrey Smiles orthodontic office – hit the streets of Vancouver last weekend at the eighth annual Weekend to End Women’s Cancers event.
Participants walked 60 km and raised thousands of dollars for the BC Cancer Foundation in the fight against breast and other women’s cancers.
The South Surrey Smiles team – captained by Stacey Feilen – raised $12,000 themselves, through a fundraising pledge drive prior to the event, which ran Aug. 13-14.
This year’s event was also memorable in that participants reached a cumulative milestone of $20-million raised through the eight years it has been held.
“The generosity and hard work of each participant, countless donors, and volunteers over the inspiring eight year span of this event, has led to great advances towards our vision of a world free from cancer,” said Douglas Nelson, BC Cancer Foundation President and CEO. “Your efforts have helped us move farther than we ever thought possible.”
