Snowbirds wow thousands with aerial demonstration

White Rock performance doubled as fundraiser benefiting CH.I.L.D. Foundation

Tens of thousands of aviation fans flocked to White Rock’s waterfront Wednesday evening for a chance to see the Snowbirds in action.

More than $50,000 was raised by fans of the Canadian Forces aerial demonstration, benefiting the Children with Intestinal and Liver Disorders (CHILD) Foundation.

Grace McCarthy, board chairperson of the foundation, was honoured at the event, receiving a Canadian flag from Snowbirds team lead Major Patrick Gobeil.

Organizers told Peace Arch News approximately 60,000 people attended the Fly for CHILD event Aug. 6, and noted that those who want to contribute are still able to use the foundation’s Text-To-Donate program, by texting the word SNOWBIRD to 41010, which will make an automatic $10 donation that will appear on the next phone bill.
