A Celtic concert set for White Rock’s Elks Hall June 27 will benefit orphans in Cambodia.

Sponsored by the Irish Club of White Rock, proceeds from the event – featuring The Pat Chessell Band – will go to the Rotary Club of South Surrey’s orphanage project.

Club members have been working to boost conditions of an orphanage in Battambang since 2014. Fundraising has helped with improvements including an overhaul of the girls’ dormitory, upgrades to the boys’ dormitory, construction of a proper kitchen and more.

More work – electrical, sewer, training, etc. – is planned for next January, when members intend to return to the impoverished area for two months.

The Rotary club is aiming to raise US$10,000. Once the goal is reached, they can apply for a global Rotary grant and federal funding – potentially boosting the funds six-fold.

Doors to the June 27 event open at 7 p.m.; the concert is to get underway at 7:30 p.m. The Elks Hall is located at 1469 George St.

Tickets, $30, are available by calling 604-803-0773 or 604-338-3553.
